Datenschutzerklärung

When you visit Abendanalyse.de, we collect some information about you. This privacy policy explains what we collect, why, and how you can control it. Please read it alongside our Cookie Policy. If you have any questions, our contact details are at the end.

What does this privacy policy mean for you?

This policy tells you exactly how Abendanalyse.de handles your personal data when you read our articles, sign up for our newsletter, or get in touch with us. It covers your rights under UK GDPR, the types of data we collect, and the choices you have. We want you to feel confident that your information is safe with us.

We are a Swedish digital news publisher, but because we serve readers across Europe, we follow UK data protection law as our baseline. That means you have clear rights to access, correct, delete, or move your data, and to object to how we use it. We never sell your personal information, and we only share it in the ways described below.

What personal data do we collect and why?

We collect only the personal data that is necessary to provide our journalism and to improve your experience on Abendanalyse.de. This includes data you give us directly, such as your email address when you subscribe to our newsletter, and data we collect automatically, such as your IP address and browsing behaviour on our site.

Specifically, we may collect:

  • Contact information – name and email address when you sign up for our newsletter, submit a tip, or contact our editorial team.
  • Technical data – IP address, browser type, device type, operating system, and pages you visit, gathered through analytics and advertising services.
  • Cookie data – information stored via cookies and similar technologies for analytics, personalisation, and advertising. For full details, see our Cookie Policy.
  • Correspondence – any information you provide when you email us, use our contact forms, or submit a correction or complaint.

We use this data to deliver our news content, send you requested newsletters, respond to your enquiries, improve our website, show relevant advertisements, and comply with legal obligations. Our lawful bases for processing include consent (for marketing emails and non-essential cookies), legitimate interest (for analytics and improving our service), and legal obligation (for retaining records of corrections or complaints).

How do we use your data?

We use your personal data only for the purposes you have consented to or where we have a legitimate interest as a news publisher. For example, we use your email address to send you our newsletter if you subscribed, and we use your browsing data to understand which articles are popular so we can improve our coverage.

We do not make automated decisions that significantly affect you based on your data. Where we use AI-assisted tools to support research or drafting, those tools never replace human editorial judgement and no personal data is used to train those models without your explicit consent. Any sponsored content or affiliate links are clearly labelled, and your data is never used to target you in ways that conflict with our editorial independence.

Who do we share your data with?

We share your personal data only with trusted service providers who help us run our site, such as email newsletter platforms, analytics providers (like Google Analytics), advertising partners, and content delivery networks. These parties are contractually obliged to protect your data and use it only for the purposes we specify.

We may also share data if required by law, for example to comply with a court order or legal request from a regulatory authority. We will never sell your personal data to third parties for their own marketing purposes. Affiliate links on Abendanalyse.de may generate revenue, but your data is not sold or transferred to the linked merchants as part of that process.

How long do we keep your data?

We keep your personal data only as long as necessary for the purpose it was collected, or as required by law. For newsletter subscribers, we retain your email address until you unsubscribe, after which we delete it within 30 days. For analytics data, we retain aggregated, anonymised records for up to 26 months.

Correspondence records, including complaints and corrections, are kept for a period of two years after the matter is resolved, in line with our Complaints Procedure. Technical logs containing IP addresses are anonymised after 30 days unless needed for security investigations.

What are your rights under UK GDPR?

Under UK GDPR you have the right to access the personal data we hold about you, to ask us to correct or delete it, to restrict processing, to object to processing, and to request a copy of your data in a portable format. You also have the right to withdraw consent at any time where processing is based on consent.

To exercise any of these rights, please contact our Data Protection Officer (the Chefredaktör) at anders.lindqvist@abendanalyse.de or write to us using the address below. We will respond within one month. If you are unhappy with our response, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) in the UK.

How this works in practice

Imagine you sign up for our newsletter using the form on the Newsletter page. We collect your email address and first name, with your consent, and send you a confirmation email. You receive our daily digest. Later, you decide you no longer want it – you click the unsubscribe link in any email, and we delete your data within 30 days. If you later contact us to request a copy of what we held, we will provide it within a month, free of charge.

Now suppose you submit a news tip via Tip Us. We store your email address and the content of the tip to evaluate and potentially report on it. If we decide not to pursue the story, we delete the tip after six months. If the tip leads to a published article, we keep a record as part of our editorial files, anonymised where possible. You can at any time ask us to delete the tip information unless we have a legal obligation to retain it.

How do we use cookies?

For a full list of the cookies we use, what they do, and how to control them, please see our dedicated Cookie Policy. We will ask for your consent before placing any non-essential cookies when you first visit our site.
